600-570 BC: Cleisthenes, tyrant of Sicyon, transfers "tragic choruses" to Dionysus.

536-533 BC: Thespis puts on tragedy at festival of the Greater Dionysia in Athens

600 BC: Black attic style in pottery.

 

 

 

 

 

 

520 BC: Red-figured style in pottery developed

525 BC: Aeschylus born.

 

 

534 BC: Thespis, founder of Greek tragedy, victor at
Athenian drama festival.

492 BC: Phrynicus' Capture of Miletus (Miletus was captured by the Persians in 494)

490 BC: First Persian invasion of Greece, the Battle of Marathon.

c.484 BC: Herodotus is born.

480: BC Second Persian invasion of Greece, Spartans are defeated at Thermopylae, Athens is occupied by the Persians. Acroplis destroyed. The Persians are finally defeated at Salamis.

 

c. 460 BC: Physician Hippocrates is born.

460 BC: Historian Thucydides born.

 

 

 

443 - 429 BC: Pericles is leader of Athens during the Golden Age.

 

 

 

 

 

431-404 Peloponnesian War (Athens and allies vs. Sparta and allies)
