Linda Prescott

Linda Prescott, the Family and Consumer Science teacher graduated from Brigham Young University in Home Economics. (Now called Family & Consumer Science.) She also has endorsements in Vocational Education and Economics.
Linda has lived in Jerome since 1974. She and her husband have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.

Mrs. Prescott teachers the following classes:

TEEN LIVING
Teen living is designed to help students focus on their roles and responsibilities as individuals in the home and family situation with emphasis on: 1) Coordination of family life with work life 2) Issues that impact upon work\family interaction, 3) Problems that arise from these issues, 4) Positive interaction between work and family, 5) Six week of nutrition with instruction in cooking labs, 6) Six weeks of sewing lab and sewing instructions.

NUTRITION & FOODS
This course is designed to address nutrition and personal lifestyle. Content emphasis is on food preparation techniques, meal management skills, consumer skills, the impact of nutrition and related field. Cooking labs throughout the semester.

PARENTING & CHILD DEVELOPMENT
This class addresses parenting skills and choices. Content emphasis is on parenting decision, prenatal stages, birth, stages in child development, relationships within families, appropriate family coping strategies, evaluation of child care services, and child safety in child development and parenting and related areas.

ECONOMICS
Help young people develop consumer attitudes ant practices that will help them face both simple and complex decisions throughout life. Play “Stock Market Game” for ten weeks.

CAREERS
This course focuses on three main areas for eighth graders: 1) self knowledge 2) educational and occupational explorations, 3) career planning. Students learn about different careers by having professionals from all over the Magic Valley into the classroom as guest speakers. The last six weeks of class is a Family and Consumer Science class with emphasis on cooking skills. (Including a cooking lab.)

The following are a list of supplies required for class:

  • At least two #2 Pencils
  • Non-Electric Pencil  Sharpener
  • Blue/Black ball point pen
  • 3-ring binder with dividers (Maroon or Gray day binder can be used instead)
  • Spiral Notebook for homework
  • Notebook Paper
  • Graphing Paper
  • Ruler
  • Protractor
